Bridging the Digital Divide
Jamaican children, especially those in rural areas and volatile communities, face substantial challenges in accessing quality education due to various socio-economic factors. Inadequate resources and infrastructure in their schools often lead to disengagement, poor academic performance, and increased truancy. In today's digital age, access to ICT and connectivity is essential for improving learning outcomes and promoting equitable educational opportunities. To address this issue, we pledged in 2021 to build Smart Rooms in primary schools across Jamaica. This commitment is part of our mission to bridge the digital divide and create new opportunities for the youth. So far, eleven primary schools, from the cool hills of Manchester to the bustling streets of Kingston, have benefited from our Smart Room initiative. Each room is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a Mimio Smart Board, 12 laptops, 12 tablets, and a printer. Our Smart Rooms are also be powered by Digicel+ lightning-fast internet to facilitate research and knowledge building. The Smart Rooms empower students to explore, innovate, and create. They are not just classrooms; they are gateways to the future.
Our Impact
Since the inception of our Smart Room initiative, we have directly impacted over 9,000 children, providing access to modern educational resources and technology. Our reach extends across 9 parishes, where we have established a total of 11 Smart Rooms.
